On March 24 1995, the Minister for Emergency Services, Gary Humphries MLA, announced the formation of the Bushfire Task Force. The Chair is Mr Graham Glenn AO; a former Secretary of the Commonwealth Department of Industrial Relations and the Chairman of the A.C.T. Electoral Commission.

Other members of the Task Force are:

• Peter Catling (C.S.I.R.O. Division of Wildlife and Ecology)
• Val Jeffrey AFSM (Former Chair of the A.C.T. Bush Fire Council)
• Peter Lucas-Smith (C.F.C.O. of the A.C.T. Bushfire Service)
• Sandy Sandison (Chair of the A.C.T. Bush Fire Council & representative of the NSW Farmers' Federation)
• Geoff Butler (Society of the Growing of Native Plants)
• Michael Lonergan (Former Deputy Chair of the A.C.T. Bush Fire Council)
• Craig Darlington (Director of the Conservation Council of the South-East Region and Canberra)
• Linda Webb (Director of Environment & Conservation, Department of the Environment, Land & Planning).

The terms of reference are:

1. Review current practises for bushfire fuel management in the A.C.T.;

and

2. Recommend appropriate policies and practices for bushfire fuel management in the A.C.T. having regard for the protection of life and property, environmental and conservation issues.
