ACT Bushfire and Emergency Services Taskforce Returns from South Coast FireDecember 2002

The first taskforce of A.C.T. Bushfire and Emergency Service volunteers will return to Canberra at 1.30pm this afternoon (Monday 9th December 2002), following three days of assisting N.S.W. colleagues fight bushfires on the South Coast. Thirty-Two volunteers will return to the Emergency Services Bureau Headquarters after working three exhausting night shifts from 7pm to 7am conducting back-burning operations and fire suppression. The crews were based at Bateman's Bay and Moruya, and assisted in an area approximately 10 kilometres out of Moruya.

A further thirty-two volunteers continue to assist their NSW colleagues today, and are expected to return at 10.00pm this evening (Monday 9th December 2002).
