In the Australia Day Honours (26 January 2002) Simon Mawson KATZ Captain of the Rivers Volunteer Bushfire Brigade was awarded the Australia Fire Services Medal.

In the Australia Day Honours (26 January 2000) Peter Lucas-Smith Chief Fire Control Officer of the A.C.T. Bushfire Service was awarded the Australia Fire Services Medal.

In the Australia Day Honours (26 January 1998) Robert James Rowley MOORE of Guises Creek Volunteer Bushfire & Emergency Service Brigade was awarded the Australia Fire Services Medal.

In the Australia Day Honours (26 January 1996) Brian O'CONNOR of Hall Volunteer Bushfire Brigade was awarded the Australia Fire Services Medal.

In the 1994 Queen's Birthday Honours list announced on June 12, 1994, Mr Val JEFFERY from Southern Districts Volunteer Bushfire Brigade was awarded the Australia Fire Services Medal.

Mr Jeffery has been involved in the bushfire scene for some 45 years, highlights include 12 years as the Chairman of the A.C.T. Bush Fire Council (he was a member of Council for 16 years) and 14 years as Chaiman of the A.C.T. Volunteer Bushfire Brigades' Association.
