Heat Syndrome - Protection Strategies
Be Prepared:

physical fitness
-
acclimatisation to heat
-
healthy body weight
-
no serious chronic health problems
Wear appropriate clothing:
-
overalls
-
proper head gear
-
eye / face protection
Sensible Work Practices:
-
share heavy workloads
-
walk - don't run
-
work at a comfortable distance from the fire
-
do NOT work alone
DRINK plenty:
-
water is best
-
increase intake BEFORE heavy work
-
drink frequently(150 - 200mls every 10 -15 minutes)
-
drink IN EXCESS of thirst
-
NO alcohol
-
avoid excessive tea or coffee
Watch Out for others:
-
set sensible workloads
-
ensure others drink plenty
-
rotate crews regularly
-
watch for signs of fatigue, heat illness or other illness in
co-workers
