heard, we have to realize that fire isn't listening. It doesn't
feel our pain. It doesn't care - really doesn't care. It obeys a
logic of wind, drought, terrain, woods, and grasses, indifferent
to government initiatives, Non-Government Organisation
manifestos, court injunctions, or royal commissions. Unless we
speak in the language it understands, it won't hear. It won't
respond. Our words are so much vapour to be sucked into its
convective draft."
