After a request from the ACT on the 13th of
January, Royal Australian Navy deployed 4
choppers from HMAS Albatross on the 14th of
January; their tasking included water bombing and
fire spotting, they were committed continuously for
13 days

The RAAF deployed fire tenders from 26 Squadron
as well as water and refuelling tankers.

constructing a crossing over Cotter river

After the firestorm, a small group of engineers from 17
Construction Squadron took on the job of constructing a crossing
over the Cotter River to temporarily replace a badly damaged
bridge. The task was completed in a day and a half, re-establishing
road access to settlements and the national park.
