| Tidbinbilla Valley “Congwarra” Friday night 17th January 2003 | |

| Late in the evening of the 17th January 2003 a spotfire was located at the northern end of the Tidbinbilla range. This fire engulfed thousands of hectares during the evening, and made a run to the east. Directly in its path was the property “Congwarra”. Backburns were put in during the night to protect the homestead. |

After burning to the top of the Tidbinbilla
Range, the Bendora Fire spotted into pine forests in the
Oakey Creek area and burnt steadily until 4.00 am, when
freshening north-westerly winds accelerated fire activity. A
combined ACT and NSW taskforce on property protection duties
undertook urgent back burning at "Congwarra"
homestead.
